Do i need a visa?
Most traveler´s to Guatemala do not need a visa ahead of time incluing Europe, you´ll receive a 90 day tourist visa upon arrival at immigration control. Please be sure to check your personal requirements before traveling to be sure.
Attention if your plane transit by USA or Canada don’t forget to request a Esta Travel Authorization on line even if your are on transit in these airport, it is necessary for immigration.
Local currency?
Guatemala’s currency is the Quetzal (GTQ), and you can exchange Euros at places like Global Exchange and RapiXchangE in Guatemala City (especially at La Aurora Airport) and Antigua, or directly from ATMs for better rates, though with potential fees.
Weather?
Guatemala has a tropical climate with distinct dry (Nov-Apr) and rainy (May-Oct) seasons, but weather varies significantly by altitude: coasts are hot/humid, mountain valleys (like Antigua/Guate City) have mild, spring-like temps (60-70°F/16-21°C), and highlands get cool to cold. That´s why is called the land of eternal spring
Food and drinking water
Tap water in Guatemala is not safe to drink so use bottled or filtered water for drinking and brushing teeth. While many restaurants use purified water and ice, it is best to avoid street food, raw produce, and unpeeled fruits to prevent stomach issues.
What to bring?
For a trip to Guatemala, pack lightweight, breathable clothing, a sweater for some chilly evenings, a raincoat for the rain (May-October), and comfortable walking shoes. Essential items include insect repellent, sunscreen, a valid passport for at least six months, and ideally, a 15-20 liter daypack.
